Josua Hoffalt
Born in 1984 in Pertuis, Josua Hoffalt started dancing in Marignane.
Through a smooth, generous and powerful dance, Josua Hoffalt embodies the qualities of the French School. First noticed for the purity of his style, he proved himself as an insightful, thorough and modern dancer in every single one of his performances.
Recipient of Prix Carpeaux and Silver Medalist at the Varna International Ballet Competition in 2004, Josua was appointed to the title “Etoile” on the 7th of March 2012, after his performance as Solor in Noureev’s La Bayadère, alongside Aurélie Dupont (Nikiya) et Dorothée Gilbert (Gamzatti).
He has been chosen by Jean-Guillaume Bart (danseur étoile) for his creation Pas de Deux Javotte and by Sasha Waltz for his Romeo and Juliet. He plays Noureev’s version of Pâris for the official farewell from the stage of Elisabeth Maurin (danseuse étoile). He performs the Pas de Deux Ecossais from La Sylphide (P. Lacotte), Gaston Rieux in Lady of the Camelias (J. Neumeier) and Morel in Les Intermittences du Cœur (R. Petit).
In 2008, he was chosen by Mats Ek to participate in the entry to the repertoire of his piece “A Sort Of…” and by José Martinez to perform the role of Frédéric Lemaître in Children of Paradise.
His most well-known roles are Drosselmeyer/the Prince in the Nutcracker, Romeo in Romeo et Juliet (Rudolf Noureev), Franz in Coppelia (Patrice Bart), Colas in The Wayward Daughter (Frederick Ashton) and the leading role in Le Spectre à la Rose (Michel Fokine). He also danced contemporary pieces such as The Rite of Spring (Pina Bausch), Kaguyahime (Jiri Kylian), White Darkness (Nacho Duato), O Composite (Trisha Brown) and creations such as l'Anatomie de la Sensation (Wayne McGregor) and Répliques (Nicolas Paul).
In 2009, he was awarded the A.R.O.P Prize.
He is regularly invited to perform all over the world especially in Austria, Italy, Canada, Japan and the US.
Moreover, he created or performed in almost every male lead of Samuel Murez and Raul Zeummes choreographies and directed several short movies.
