"DÉSORDRES" FROM SAMUEL MUREZ
5 exceptional performances
at Théâtre André Malraux of Rueil-Malmaison
10 Soloists and Dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet,
1h40 including intermission
3e étage, the group of Paris Opera Ballet soloists and dancers that performs independently under the direction of Samuel Murez, presents an exceptional version of "Désordres" ("Disorders"), their stunning program that has received overwhelming acclaim in France, Canada, Argentina, and the United States. Through a highly imaginative staging, "Désordres" (Disorders) weaves together ten short, brilliant, and often very humorous pieces into a coherent and affecting whole that delights newcomers and connoiseurs alike.
Linked motifs, recurring characters, and overarching themes progressively reveal a clever underlying structure in this unclassifiable mix of dance, cinema, mime and theater that is the hallmark of director Samuel Murez. 3e étage has always explored the various facets of virtuosity, whether in an academic Petipa ballet or a deconstructionist Forsythe work, and in this surprising performance that includes creations as well as reprises, virtuosity is as present as ever, constantly put to new uses and taking new forms.
Part bravura display, part theatrical creation, always on edge, "Disorders" achieves a precarious balance between humor and seriousness, convention and transgression, order and madness, that will make you see the soloists and dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet in an entirely new light.
